FAQs

About Githerments

What does "Githerments" mean?
Githerments is a colloquialism meaning an assortment of mismatched or collected things. We couldn't imagine a better name for garments made from rescued fabrics, gathered stories, and beautiful odds and ends.

Why are some garments one-of-a-kind?
Many of our pieces are made from reclaimed, vintage, and heirloom textiles. Often we only have enough fabric to create a single garment, making each piece entirely unique.

What is the difference between One-of-a-Kind and Made-to-Order?
One-of-a-Kind pieces are created once and cannot be replicated. Made-to-Order garments are created using our core silhouettes and can be commissioned in a range of fabrics and finishes depending on availability.

Will my made-to-order garment look exactly like the photos?
No. Photos show examples of a silhouette rather than an exact replica. Fabrics, trims, patchwork, and embellishments will vary depending on available materials and your preferences.

Why do some garments show signs of mending or previous wear?
We work with reclaimed and heirloom textiles wherever possible. Visible repairs, patches, and signs of previous life are often preserved as part of a garment's story.

Sizing & Fit

How do I choose my size?
Where relevant each garment includes special measurements and fit notes. Where there are no sizing considerations you can refer to the sizing guide. This is a standard guide that we use when drafting our pieces. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll happily help you find the right fit.

Can I request alterations to a made-to-order garment?
Yes. Because our garments are made by hand, we can often adjust sizing, length, and fit details during the ordering process. If you know what you want pop it in the customisations before you order. If not, shoot us a message.

Are your garments size-inclusive?
We believe beautiful clothing belongs to everybody. Many of our silhouettes are designed to be adaptable, and we are committed to offering a broad size range wherever possible.

Core Range - Made-to-Order

How does the Core Range - Made-to-Order process work?

Choose your preferred silhouette, size, colour palette, and, where applicable, your desired level of patchwork or embellishment. Any additional requests can be added to the comment box before checkout.

You're welcome to be as involved as you'd like. Some customers provide detailed preferences, while others leave the creative decisions to us. If no specific fabric requests are made, we'll select from our collection of reclaimed, vintage, and heirloom textiles to create a one-of-a-kind version of the silhouette.

Can I send you my own fabric?

Absolutely. We love working with meaningful textiles such as quilts, blankets, curtains, tablecloths, and family heirlooms. Simply select "Contact me with other options" when ordering and we'll discuss the possibilities together.

How long do made-to-order garments take?

Timeframes vary depending on the complexity of the garment and our current workload. An estimated completion timeframe will be provided before work begins.

Commissions

How does the commission process work?
Start by visiting our BYO Fabric page, where you'll find information about commissions and a link to our contact form.

Send us a message with as much or as little detail as you'd like about your project. Whether you have a clear vision, a treasured textile, or simply an idea you'd like to explore, we'll work with you to develop the project together.

We'll discuss what you're looking for. for example, silhouette, sizing, fabric options, budget, and any custom details before work begins. Once everything is agreed upon, we'll create a piece made specifically for you and your story.

Does it have to be clothes?

No. We're open to very projects involving textile art, patchwork and transforming your ideas into reality. We've had requests for quilts, wall arts, as well as unique garments.

Care & Longevity

How should I care for my garment?
Visit our Aftercare page for general care instructions and mending advice.

Because many Githerments pieces are made from reclaimed, vintage, and heirloom textiles, care requirements may vary between garments. If your piece requires special attention, we'll include specific care instructions with your order.

Do you offer repairs?
Not yet. But, we believe clothing should be repaired rather than discarded. If your garment needs mending, get in touch and we'll discuss repair options.

What is the patch kit?
You can add a patch kit to any order. Each kit includes a needle, thread, and a handy hints and tips guide to help you repair and care for your garment.

Our garments are shipped in reusable dust covers made from fabric chosen to coordinate with your piece. When the time comes, the dust cover can be cut up and used as patch fabric for repairs.

It's our way of encouraging repair, longevity, and creative mending. Love it, wear it, repair it, pass it on.

Sustainability & Materials

Where do your fabrics come from?
We source reclaimed, second hand, vintage, deadstock, and heirloom textiles wherever possible.

Why do you use reclaimed fabrics?
We believe beautiful materials deserve more than one life. Reclaiming textiles helps reduce waste while creating garments rich with history and character.

Are all your garments sustainable?
We're committed to making thoughtful choices wherever possible, but we're also honest about the realities of small-scale production. Sustainability is an ongoing process, not a finished destination.

Shipping & Returns

Do you ship internationally?
Currently our focus is Australia, though international shipping may be available on request.

Can I return a garment?
Ready-to-wear and commissioned pieces may have different return policies.

We're big on chatting it out. If something is really wrong just shoot us a message and we'll figure it out together.

What if my garment arrives damaged?
Contact us as soon as possible and we'll work with you to make it right.
